Our Last Week

I am sad to say this is our last week of English, but since I cannot extend our English class, students will be receiving a flyer about an optional afterschool book club we will start during the next seven week block. Never fear--there are always more fantastic books to read and talk about!

Creating Fantastic Worlds

The class had a wonderful visit to The Mint Museum Uptown, and they each wrote a creative response to one piece in the fairy tale exhibit and one piece from the collection. Now back from spring break, we are finishing exploring the interesting world in our graphic novel, The Arrival, and students are completing their short story drafts based on their reading of The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. They are a creative and gifted group of young adults!

Art Activation

We are continuing to read our graphic novel, The Arrival, this week. One Tuesday we are going to the Mint Museum Uptown to see their Fairy Tale and Fantasy exhibit, look at their permanent collection of American Art (from the Colonial Period through the Second World War), look at their historic costume design collection, and we will also visit an independent bookstore in Charlotte, Park Road Books. We are excited! I leave for England on Wednesday night, but Mrs. Dailey will be with the students on Thursday.

Monday: AR, Submit final drafts of Persuasive Essay, Continue reading The Arrival and discuss in large group, Prepare 30 second video presentation at castle, Write story to accompany Harris Burdick's mysterious drawings

Tuesday: Field Trip, Review for Test on Wednesday
