First Grade News November 30
Dear wonderful families,
We have a really wonderful Christmas activity planned. The elementary students will be attending the Nutcracker Ballet on Dec. 13th. The permission slip is coming home today attached to this letter. The cost is $10 per student. We will be riding in cars and parking in the city. Please send in the permission slip and money as soon as possible.
Here are some other events coming in December:
Dec. 14th at 2pm – Elementary Christmas program and Talent Show — Parents are invited. Students are to wear dark pants and a white top with white or black gloves.
Dec. 18th 12:30 to 3:00 Elementary party
Dec. 19th Class Christmas party
Remember our monthly reading chart. Your child will receive a free book and a free personal pan pizza certificate at the end of each month when the calendar is turned in (read 20 minutes for 20 days). Send in November’s calendar!
Here is a summary of what we will be studying next week:
Phonics:
• Review of Level 2
Math:
• Unit 8 Length
• Test on Thursday
Writing:
• Handwriting practice
• Journal writing – Writing complete sentences with a capital and period
• Writing an original story with 2 characters and a problem
Reading:
• Fluency practice with phonics readers
• High frequency words at an individual level
• Practicing comprehension and recognizing characters in a story
Spelling:
• Words this week: bake, cake, flake, lake, make, quake, rake, take, wake, snake
• Sentence with a capital and a period: Bake a cake for the snake.
• Test on Thursday
REMINDERS: Read 20 minutes each day and practice the first 50 high frequency words. Fill in the reading calendar to receive a free book and free pizza certificate at the end of each month. Send in your Boxtops for Education. Wear tennis shoes and send in a water bottle every day.
