Elementary History Nov. 13. – Nov. 20

Grade 3 World History

Monday

  • Students will learn about the world at the time of the Crusades in Chapter 18, Story of the World, Vol. 2. Teacher reads from text while students color student p. 76, The Age of Crusades.
  • With guided practice students complete map work on student p. 75
  • Activity: Students make their own pilgrim badges to wear.

Wednesday

  • Color a picture of Richard the Lionhearted and Robin Hood while listening to a story about Richard the Lionhearted and John Lackland, Kings of England during the Crusades. Discuss the stories and read James 4:1
  • Complete map work on student p. 79; following Richard’s journey to Jerusalem.
  • Understand the term, legend, and discuss Robin Hood, a mysterious man who lived in the royal forest with a band of outlaws, while making a paper Robin Hood hat.
  • Watch the YouTube video: Robin Hood (1960) by CCCartoons (6:28 min).

Thursday

  • Art activity period: Students will work on castle assembly or Mayflower ships.

Monday

  • Students will listen to a story about the Diaspora, the scattering of the Jews during the Middle Ages from Chapter 20, Story of the World, Vol.2.
  • Complete map work on student p. 82.
  • Use student p. 84 and discuss the Jewish symbols: menorah, Wailing Wall, lions, mezuzah, and the Torah.

 

Grade 4 History and Geography

Monday – Thursday

  • Students will make a South Carolina Brochure and include seven state symbols from a list. Define in complete sentences and illustrate each symbol.
  • Continue singing Northern states and capitals song.
  • Students will learn patriotic songs.

Wednesday

  • Read and discuss an article on South Carolina State History from www.ducksters.com
  • Fill in a timeline graphic organizer with 9 historical facts about South Carolina.
  • Students will continue to work on S.C. Brochure project.
  • Complete a South Carolina Cities Word Search.
  • Continue singing Northern states and capitals song.

Thursday

  • Students will fill out study sheet of important facts about SC to prepare for test on Monday, Nov. 20. Students will take study sheet home to prepare for test.
  • Test on Northern border states will be Thursday, Nov. 30.

Monday – Nov. 20

  • South Carolina Test
  • Continue singing Northern states and capitals song.
  • Students will learn patriotic songs.
